Waltman Named MASL Nov. Goalkeeper Of The Month

by Brett Gleason

TACOMA, Wash. -- Tacoma Stars goalkeeper Danny Waltman has been named the Major Arena Soccer League’s November Goalkeeper of the Month, the league announced this afternoon.

Waltman, 35, helped steer the Stars to three consecutive victories in November while tallying 48 saves. A pair of shootout saves by Waltman powered Tacoma to a 6-5 victory over Dallas on Nov. 18 in their first shootout appearance since joining the MASL.

“Danny is one of the best goalkeepers I have ever seen in the indoor game, and I am happy that he is being recognized as such,” Stars Head Coach and General Manager Darren Sawatzky said. “It is very difficult to maintain consistency at a high level while also helping the players around you get better. He has done both for us this year.”

His four wins this season are tied for the most in the circuit, while he also ranks among the league leaders in goals against average (6th, 4.66) and save percentage (8th, .696). With Waltman at the helm, the Stars defense has killed 75 percent of opponent power play opportunities this season.

Following a last season, in which Waltman ranked among the league’s top 10 goalkeepers in every statistical category, he was named MASL Goalkeeper of the Year.

Waltman and the Stars square off against the San Diego Sockers in a road match scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 2 with a first kick set for 7:35 p.m. PT.
