by MASL

TACOMA, WA. – Tacoma Stars player-coach Nick Perera capped off his 1st Team All-MASL season with another piece of hardware, the Most Valuable Player Award. Perera was nominated along with Brandon Escoto of San Diego and Max Ferdinand from the Milwaukee Wave.

Perera led the league in scoring with 80 points (39G-41) finishing 16 points ahead of second place. His 41 assists were also the league’s top mark and he finished third in goals scored. Perera appeared in all 24 regular season games for Tacoma and put together a 3.3 points per game average, which was best in the MASL. He also picked up five points in Tacoma’s two playoff games against the Sockers.

Perera came to Tacoma during the 2017-18 campaign and has appeared in 41 games including all five Stars playoff matches. During his time with the Stars, Perera has 110 points (59G-51A) for a 2.68 career points per game average with Tacoma.

Perera became the Stars head coach in December 2018, replacing Darren Sawatzky at the helm. In his second game as player-coach he netted a goal and an assist to help his squad become the only team to beat the San Diego Sockers during the regular season.
