Tacoma Stars GM and Owner To Play in Zakuani Charity Game
Tacoma Stars general manager, Darren Sawatzky, and owner, Lane Smith, will be playing in the third annual Zakuani & Friends Charity Soccer Game on July 2nd, 2017. Last year’s game featured big names in soccer such as Landon Donovan, Dwayne De Rosario and Jimmy Conrad but the Stars front office was able to hold their own. Sawatzky scored a goal which helped pushed Seattle Sounder Steve Zakuani’s team to victory and Tacoma Stars owner Lane Smith assisted on a goal with former Seattle Sounder & USMNT player Eddie Johnson. This year Sawatzky and Smith will play alongside Zakuani, a host of former MLS and USMNT players and even two NFL legends – Marshawn Lynch and Chad Ochocinco. The event includes pre-match festivities including music, food trucks, a beer garden and entertainment for the entire family. Proceeds from the event go to support Zakuanis foundation, Kingdom Hope, and their #project50 initiative funding scholarships. The event is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. PDT on Sunday, July 2nd at Starfire Stadium.
