TACOMA STARS DROP A CLOSE ONE IN MONTERREY, 6-4
Monterrey, Mexico – The Tacoma Stars (7-8) took a lead into the 4th quarter in Arena Monterrey but the Flash (13-0) scored the final four goals of the match to beat the Stars 6-4 in front of 2,107 Flash faithful. The win allows Monterrey to remain the only unbeaten team in the MASL this season.
It was like two different games were happening at the same time, Tacoma had the lead much of the way but Monterrey brought almost continuous pressure. In the end, the Flash outshot the Stars by a 33-11 margin. Danny Waltman’s incredible play in goal kept the Stars in front through three quarters.
Tacoma took only four shots in the 1st quarter and three of them went for goals including scores from Taylor Walter Bond from Joseph Cairel and unassisted markers from Chase Hanson and Nick Perera. The only goal in the 2nd quarter would come from Monterrey’s Omar Santillan to make it a 3-1 Stars lead at the half.
Damian Garcia would bring the Flash within one with 8:34 left in the 3rd. Perera put the Stars back up by two with his second goal of the night with 5:27 left. From that point it was all Flash with the scoring with two goals from Brayan Aguilar and one each from Miguel Vaca and Carlos Farias to give Monterrey the 6-4 final.
The Stars will continue their Mexico road trip on Saturday January 27 when they face the Soles de Sonora before returning home on February 2. The Stars will host El Paso at 7:35 as they begin a stretch of four out of their final six matches at home.
