STARS WIN SECOND IN A ROW AGAINST ONTARIO
Ontario, CA – The Tacoma Stars (5-6) traveled to Ontario to complete a home and home series with the Fury (5-6) and made it a two-game sweep, picking up an 8-6 win. The win draws the Stars even with Ontario in the MASL Pacific Division but lead 2-0 in the head to head series.
Tacoma started the game quickly with Joey Gjertsen taking an assist from Nick Perera to go up 1-0 less than three minutes into the match. Vince McCluskey scored the second Tacoma goal off a rebound to extend the lead. Perera notched his second assist of the game, this time to Philip Lund with 5:09 left in the first for a 3-0 Tacoma lead.
Stars keeper Danny Waltman was huge in goal during an Ontario onrush to start the second quarter but the Fury eventually got their first goal from Juan Carlos Gonzalez to make it 3-1 Stars. Three minutes later Troy Peterson connected with Joseph Cairel to put Tacoma up 4-1.
The Stars special teams scored on a power play marker from Gjertsen, his second of the night. The final goal of the half came off the foot of Ontario’s Jinho Kim to make it 5-2 Tacoma at the break.
The teams would trade goals in the third quarter with Cory Keitz and Perera scoring for Tacoma. Gonzalez and Adrien Perez found the net for the Fury. Gonzalez picked up his third of the night, and then a power play goal from Thiago Goncalves brought the Fury within one at 7-6.
Perera buried a set piece for Tacoma with 5:59 left to close out scoring and seal the Stars victory at 8-6.
