STARS WELCOME ONTARIO FOR WEEKEND DOUBLE-HEADER

by Pete Richmire

KENT, WA. - The Tacoma Stars (4-9-1) welcome the Ontario Fury (8-4-2) Friday night for the first of two weekend games at the accesso ShoWare Center. Friday will be a special evening as the Tacoma Stars will be retiring the #16 in honor of Joseph ‘The Jet’ Cairel. Cairel played for the Stars for several seasons before joining the Fury for one year before tragically passing away in 2020. He was truly a fan-favorite and greatly missed member of the community. His family will be in attendance from California for the weekend. This will be the first number retired by the Tacoma Stars.

Tacoma and Ontario are even 1-1 in their season-series., and after this weekend’s pair of games, the Stars and Fury will have one final matchup on March 21 in Ontario. Games have become increasingly important for the Stars, who sit six points out of the final wild-card spot, trailing St. Louis and Milwaukee.

Entering the weekend, the Stars have six players with 10+ points this season led by Nick Perera and his 33 points (16G-17A). Vini Dantas (13G-7A), Mike Ramos (11G-3A), Alessandro Canale (10G-3A), Alex Caceres (3G-9A), and DeBray Hollimon (3G-7A) make up the top offensive performers for Tacoma.

For the Fury, it’s Franck Tayou (23G-11A) setting the pace with six additional players with 14 or more points on the year.

The weekend series will conclude on Saturday with a 7:05 pm kick-off.
