STARS WELCOME BACK WILLIE SPURR

by Pete Richmire

TACOMA, WA. – The Tacoma Stars announced the return of Seattle native Willie Spurr today as the first free-agent signing of the off-season. Spurr was with the Stars during his MASL rookie season before joining the Ontario Fury for the next two seasons. Per team and league policies, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Spurr, who appeared in six games for Tacoma during the COVID-shortened 2021 season, played 10 games for the Fury the following before sustaining an injury that would keep him out the remainder of that season and the 2022-23 campaign as well. He is looking forward to the return to his original club.

“I’m really excited to be back with the Tacoma Stars. I know the organization and many of the players very well and I’m looking forward to being part of the group again. It’s taken a lot of work to get to this point, but I feel ready to contribute to a strong team on the field this season” Spurr said.

In all, Spurr has four goals and six assists in his 16 regular-season games and a pair of goals and an assist in two playoff appearances for the Stars in 2021. Nick Perera likes what Spurr can do on defense as well.

“Willie is a technically proficient midfielder, who can impact the game on both sides of the ball. We are all really excited to welcome Willie back, and I believe our fans are going to love watching him at Showare this season,” said Perera.
