Stars Surge To 9-5 Victory Over Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Tacoma Stars (3-0) netted a season-high nine goals on the way to a 9-5 victory over the Sacramento Surge (0-4) on Saturday night at Estadio Azteca.

Stars striker Derek Johnson sent in three goals for his first hat trick of the season while adding an assist to round out his night. Forward Dan Antoniuk and midfielder Jamael Cox combined for four goals, and midfielder Joey Gjertsen contributed an assist to power Tacoma to victory. Goalkeeper Danny Waltman played start to finish for the Stars, recording 14 saves on 19 shots.

Tacoma went into halftime with a 4-1 lead over the Surge behind a pair of goals from Antoniuk and solo scores by Adam West and Johnson. A goal six minutes into the second quarter by Norman Levesque accounted for Sacramento’s first half offensive effort.

The Stars closed out the victory with a pair of goals in the third quarter and three more in the fourth. Johnson completed his hat trick with a goal in the final minute of the match, putting the game out of reach for Sacramento. The Surge put a pair of goals on the board in both the third and fourth quarter.

The Stars will wrap up their three-game road trip with a match against Sacramento tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 15 at 3:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on www.golivesportscast.com.
