STARS SHINE IN SAND SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP POOL PLAY SWEEP

by Pete Richmire

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. – Players from the Tacoma Stars as well as other MASL teams and individuals have swapped the turf for the sand and swept their way through pool play in Virginia. Cory Keitz, Nick Perera, and Danny Waltman have joined forces with players such as Chris Toth and Adrian Dos Santos to represent the Stars in the 2019 North American Sand Soccer Championships which began yesterday and runs through Sunday.

Beginning play in Pool C yesterday, the Stars made quick work of their first opponent, the Shaka Boyz in a 10-0 rout. Toronto Beach Soccer, the second-place finisher in the pool, fell to the Stars 8-3 to give Tacoma a perfect 2-0 record after Day One. VB Alliance was Tacoma’s next victim to close out pool play with a 6-3 Stars win.

After the sweep Tacoma Stars head-coach Perera said “winning the group outright has put us in a great position to keep accomplishing our goals throughout the tournament. I’m very excited for tonight’s quarter final match and beyond!”

With the First-Place finish in Pool C, the Stars are set to kick off the single-elimination championship bracket this afternoon at 4:40 pm Pacific against HRSC Elite. Fans can watch the games live at https://vimeo.com/event/8333 by using the password SAND.
