Stars Recognized at Sounders FC 2 Match

Members of the Tacoma Stars team and front office received special recognition at the Seattle Sounders FC 2 match against the Colorado Switchbacks on Wednesday, August 10th.

Stars owners Lane Smith and Cliff McElroy, along with coach & general manager Darren Sawatzky and goalkeeper Danny Waltman, were each introduced during halftime at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila.

Both teams in the United Soccer League match featured players who factored heavily in the 2014-15 WISL Championship squad, and played for the club in its seven-game introduction to the Major Arena Soccer League last winter. Josh Phillips, the starting central defender at Colorado, and Duncan McCormick, who is now on S2’s roster, both played prominent roles with the Stars last season.

The roster for the Stars 2015-16 season is expected to be comprised of players with similar levels of talent as the team positions itself as the winter destination for professional soccer in the Northwest. Satisfying that role is reliant upon maintaining deeply-held relationships with Seattle Sounders FC and their affiliates, Seattle Sounders FC 2 and Sounders U23.

The recognition received by the Tacoma Stars team and front office at Wednesday’s S2 match served as the next step in the development of that connection.
