STARS POWERED BY TWO HAT TRICKS 10-7 OVER EL PASO
Kent, WA- The Tacoma Stars (8-9), on the strength of hat tricks by Nick Perera and Philip Lund, defeated the El Paso Coyotes 10-7 at the Accesso ShoWare Center. The win keeps Tacoma within one game of Ontario in the hunt for the second MASL Pacific division playoff spot.
The Stars got off to a quick start jumping out to a 3-0 lead on goals by Trevor Jensen, Lund and Perera. El Paso got on the scoreboard with 4:47 left in the first on the first of three goals by Jorge Rios. Perera and Rios would each score again in the opening quarter to give the Stars a 5-2 lead after one.
In the second Perera scored twice and Lund added another goal to keep the pressure on the Coyotes. El Paso’s lone goal in the quarter came off the foot of Rios to make it 8-3 Stars at the break.
El Paso out scored and outshot the Stars in the second half including the first two goals in the third quarter and the last two in the fourth to keep the game close on the scoreboard. Lund completed his hat trick for Tacoma in the third and Jamael Cox closed out scoring for the Stars to give them the 10-7 win.
The Stars face the San Diego Sockers next Friday, February 9 at 7:35 pm.
