SAN DIEGO, CA. – The Stars (8-12) and Sockers (15-6) opened a three game series Sunday night at Pachenga Arena San Diego and San Diego notched a 6-2 victory in front of 2,414 fans. The series continues Friday at the accesso ShoWare Center in Kent before concluding next Sunday in San Diego.

It was a quiet first 15 minutes of play in Southern California with only goal coming in the opening quarter. Slavisa Ubiparipovic found Taylor Walter Bond for the Sockers goal with 7:52 to play in the first.

The second quarter was a different story and scoring started quickly when Brian Farber connected with Kraig Chiles just 16 second into the frame to put San Diego on top 2-0. Mike Ramos used an Alex Caceres assist to cut the lead in half with a Stars goal with 9:19 to play in the half.

The Stars went on the power play following a blue card to Raymundo Contreras but were unable to convert. San Diego then had a double power play chance of their own after Evan McNeley and Lamar Neagle were both sent to the penalty box with 2:26 remaining in the half. Gerardo Jurado wasted no time with the first power play goal as he fired the ball past the Tacoma defense two seconds into the five on three advantage. It was Jurado again on the power play which put the Sockers up 4-1 heading into the locker room at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, Cory Keitz opened second half scoring for Tacoma by heading in a loose ball in front of Sockers keeper Boris Pardo with 13:28 remaining in the fourth quarter. A quick answer by San Diego as Chiles found Cesar Cerda sent the Sockers back up by three at 5-2 with 11:33 left to go. The Sockers extended the lead on an unassisted goal from Chiles with 8:51 remaining. That proved to be the final goal of the match.

The first two matches between these teams featured 59 fouls and 12 penalty cards. The trend continued tonight as Tacoma and San Diego combined for 37 fouls, 10 penalty cards, and an ejection.
