by Pete Richmire

The Tacoma Stars (2-4) are on the road for Week 9 of the 2021-22 MASL season with stops in San Diego (7-0-1) on Friday, and Ontario (5-3-1) on Sunday. Tacoma will be looking to rebound from a pair of losses in a home-and-home series last week against the Kansas City Comets, while the Sockers have won their last four games including three in overtime.

Friday’s game will be the second under new head coach Adam Becker, who becomes the fourth bench leader for the MASL Stars. On the field, the Stars are led by Nick Perera’s 19 points (12G-7A), which also places him fifth in the league in scoring. Alessandro Canale (9G-1A), Vini Dantas (3G-4A), and Alex Caceres (1G-5A) round out Tacoma’s top scorers.

In goal, Danny Waltman has started all six games for Tacoma and has a 2-4 record, with a .640 save percentage and goals-against-average of 6.66. On the San Diego side, it’s Boris Pardo who has started every game in goal for the Sockers. He is 6-0-1 with a 5.62 GAA and a .643 sv%.

The Sockers have three players within three points of the team lead in scoring beginning with Brandon Escoto and his 16 points (6G-10A). Tavoy Morgan (13G-2A) and Kraig Chiles (6G-7A) are close behind Escoto. Christian Gutierrez, Charlie Gonzalez, and Leonardo de Oliveira are all tied for fourth in offensive production with nine points.

The Stars and Sockers have only met once this season so far with San Diego taking a 10-7 win at the accesso ShoWare Center on December 11, 2021.
