STARS IN FLORIDA TO FACE TROPICS ON SUNDAY
LAKELAND, FL. - The Tacoma Stars (6-6-1) kick off a streak of five consecutive road games on Sunday with a visit to the Sunshine State to face the Florida Tropics (8-6-2) for the only time this season. Every game has big playoff implications for the Stars as they enter the game just one point behind the Monterrey Flash for the fifth and final Western Conference post-season seed with a game in hand.
It will be an offense vs defense clash as the Tropics bring the most goals scored in the Eastern Conference, 100 to be exact up against a Tacoma defense that is second only to the San Diego Sockers in goals allowed with 71. That mark places them third in the MASL for the stingiest defense.
Both teams come in having won their previous game, Tacoma with a 4-2 home decision over the Chihuahua Savage, and Florida with a 5-3 win over the visiting Kansas City Comets.
The Stars are 2-3 all-time against the Tropics, including a 1-2 mark at the RP Funding Center. Tacoma has dropped their last two appearances in Florida.
Week 13 of the MASL schedule is far too early to scoreboard watch, however, Sunday is a key opportunity for Tacoma to make a move in the standings as the Flash will have their hands full with a San Diego Sockers team that beat the Savage in Chihuahua on Friday night.
After Sunday’s game, Tacoma will visit Texas next weekend for games against the Dallas Sidekicks (0-13-2) and Mesquite Outlaws (10-3-2) before heading south of the border with matchups with Chihuahua (11-4-1) and Monterrey (7-5-2).
The Stars will finally return home on Saturday, March 18 for Retro/Alumni Night at the accesso ShoWare Center when the Outlaws pay a visit for a weekend doubleheader. Game time on the 18th is 7:05 pm. The same teams square off the very next day with a 5:05 pm start.
