STARS IN CALIFORNIA FOR A PAIR OF GAMES THIS WEEKEND

Tacoma, WA. – The Tacoma Stars (8-10) travel to California this weekend for a pair of games in Ontario (11-9) and San Diego (14-6). The meeting with the Fury will be the fourth and final match between the teams this season with Ontario holding a 2-1 series lead. The Fury picked up a 10-7 decision against the Stars on December 20 in the previous game at Toyota Arena.

Franck Tayou scored five goals in that match and leads Fury players in scoring against the Stars with 10 points (8G-2A). He currently leads the MASL in scoring (62 points) and goals scored (44). Juan Carlos Gonzalez sits second on the Ontario roster in production with 36 points (19G-17) and Justin Stinson is third with 26 (16G-10A).

For the Stars, Nick Perera leads the squad in scoring with 42 points (22G-20A) with five of those goals and five assists coming at the expense of Ontario this season. Mike Ramos is second on the team with 39 points (26G-13A) with five goals and an assist against the Fury.

Three-time MASL Team of the Week nominee Alex Caceres has produced 10 goals and 12 assists this campaign with a pair of goals and five assists scored versus Ontario.

Following the game in Ontario will kick off a series of three consecutive matches between Tacoma and San Diego on Sunday to conclude the season series. The Sockers scored 7-3 and 8-6 wins over Tacoma earlier this campaign. It’s been a feisty series thus far with the teams combining for 59 fouls and 12 penalty cards issued in two matches.

San Diego is led offensively by Kraig Chiles with 31 points this season on 21 goals and 10 assists. He has a pair of goals and assists against Tacoma this season. Leonardo de Oliveira and Slavisa Ubiparipovic are tied for second on the squad in production with 22 points each. In all, the Sockers have 10 players currently with 10+ point seasons.

Tacoma is currently two and a half games behind Sonora for the final Western Conference playoff spot with three games in hand against Sonora and six games to play this regular season.

The Stars are on the road next week for a pair of games in California. First up is a battle in Ontario against the Fury on Saturday at 7:05 pm. The team continues south to face San Diego at 5:05 on Sunday. You can catch all the action live on MASL.tv.
