STARS HOST UNDEFEATED FLASH FRIDAY NIGHT
TACOMA, WA. – It was January 24, 2020, and the 13-0-0 Monterrey Flash came to the accesso ShoWare Center to face the Tacoma Stars. When the final horn sounded, the Flash were 13-1-0 as the Stars, led by Mike Ramos’ four points on two goals and two assists had pulled off the upset. Nick Perera added a goal and two assists in the winning effort.
On that night a little over four years ago, Edgar Flores led all scorers with five points on three goals and two assists. Hugo Puentes finished with two goals and an assist for Monterrey.
Three of those four players are still on their respective teams with Puentes now playing for Chihuahua and on Friday, the 13-0-0 Flash will visit the Tacoma Stars at 7:05 pm.
The Flash (13-0-0) are comfortably atop the Eastern Conference, leading Utica by seven points and third place Milwaukee by 12 with a game in hand over the Wave, and the Stars (5-4-1) in a battle for third place in the West leading Chihuahua by a single point in the standings.
Monterrey, the only undefeated team in the MASL, also tops the league in goals scored (110) and goal differential (+55).
Both teams went to overtime in their last games with the Flash topping the Wave 4-3 in Milwaukee after Irvin Mojica netted the game-winner less than a minute into the extra frame. Tacoma dropped their game with the game-winner scored by the San Diego Sockers to end the game with an 8-7 final at the accesso ShoWare Center.
This is the first of two games between the Stars and Flash this season with the teams meeting again on February 18 in Monterrey. Tacoma is 0-4 in Mexico against the Flash but the teams have split the four games they have played at the accesso ShoWare Center.
