STARS FALL IN SAN DIEGO 8-3

San Diego, CA – Playing their second game in two nights on the road, the Tacoma Stars (5-7) lost to the San Diego Sockers (10-0) 8-3 in front of 3,395 fans on Military Appreciation Night. The loss drops the Stars back into third place, a game behind Ontario in the MASL Pacific Division.

The match started strong defensively for both squads with good scoring chances on both sides, only to be turned away by sharp goalkeeping. Eventually San Diego opened scoring with 2:21 left in the first on a goal from Brian Farber. Kraig Chiles added another at the 1:09 mark to make it 2-0 San Diego after one quarter.

The second quarter was all Sockers as they added four goals including three from Brandon Escoto and Andrew Lorei’s first MASL goal to put San Diego up 6-0 at the break.

The Stars picked up their first goal of the night 2:56 into the third quarter when Alex Megson scored on a pass from Evan McNeley. Less than three minutes later, Joseph Cairel notched an unassisted goal and it was 6-2 Sockers after three quarters.

Escoto picked up an assist to go with his hat trick when he fed Farber a pass for a goal with 13:49 remaining. Cairel turned a Nick Perera pass into his second goal of the match and it was 7-3 San Diego with 6:31 on the clock. The final goal of the night was credited to Kraig Chiles and it was a Tacoma own goal with San Diego on the power play to get to the 8-3 final score.

Tacoma heads home Sunday to face the Turlock Express at 5:05 pm to finish a three games in four days stretch.
