STARS FALL IN OVERTIME TO DALLAS 5-4

by Pete Richmire

KENT, WA. – The Tacoma Stars (7-9) returned home to the accesso ShoWare Center looking to return to .500 against the Dallas Sidekicks (7-8) but Dallas came from behind in the fourth quarter and eventually won in overtime 5-4.

The game was evenly played throughout and that began in the first quarter. Jamie Lovegrove opened scoring for Dallas on his first of two goals with 3:20 left in the quarter. Less than one minute later, Tacoma leveled the match 1-1 on Nick Perera’s 20th goal of the season.

The Sidekicks went back in front when Cameron Brown converted on a VcMor Eligwe assist with 6:14 remaining in the first half. Again, a quick answer from Tacoma’s Pablo Da Silva sent the game to half time equal at 2-2.

The Stars took their first lead just 55 seconds into the third quarter when Da Silva found Mike Ramos for a goal and a 3-2 lead. This time it was the Sidekicks who picked up the game tying score off the foot of Nestor Hernandez with 11:47 on the clock in the third. Tacoma would take one more lead when Raphael Cox picked up his first goal of the season with an assist going to Stars keeper Sanaldo to go in front 4-3.

The lone goal in the fourth quarter was Lovegrove’s second of the night for Dallas to even things at 4-4 and send the match to overtime. It was there that Hernandez slid home the game winner and even the season series at one win apiece between Tacoma and Dallas.
