STARS BOLSTER DEFENSE WITH ADDITION OF MATT BRAEM

by Pete Richmire

TACOMA, WA. –  The Tacoma Stars strengthened their defense yet again this offseason with the addition of four-year MASL veteran Matt Braem with a two-year contract. Per league and team policies, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Braem, a native of Toulon, France, spent the first four years of his MASL career with the Harrisburg Heat and amassed 54 blocks in 39 games over the last two seasons. Over his four campaigns with the Heat, he appeared in 62 games with 15 goals, 26 assists, and 74 blocks to his credit.

The Stars will add Braem to a defense already built up with newcomers Román Torres and goalkeeper Chris Toth over the past couple of months.

Stars General Manager Nick Perera has been busy this summer and likes the fact that Braem brings more than his playing skills to the Stars.

“I’m really excited about Matthieu coming to Tacoma. Over his time in the MASL, he has shown defensive commitment and resilience as well as adding an attacking threat from the back. Most importantly, his character speaks to the special Stars culture we have in our locker room and I’m confident he will fit into his new family here seamlessly,” Perera said.

On joining the Stars, Braem said, “I’m super excited to get to Tacoma and start the new season! Playing in the West has always been intriguing to me, and Nick has made the process incredibly smooth, making me feel welcomed and wanted since the first day of free agency. I’m really looking forward to our home opener!”

That home opener will come on Saturday, December 9 at 7:05 p.m. Who the Stars will play will be known when the entire 2023-24 schedule is released in the coming weeks.
