STARS ADD EVAN McNELEY TO COACHING STAFF

by Pete Richmire

TACOMA, WA. – The Tacoma Stars have announced the addition of Evan McNeley to the coaching staff ahead of the 2022-23 season. McNeley, a Bellevue native, played for the Stars for 51 of his 115 regular-season career games in the MASL. Per team and league policies, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

McNeley’s last season as a player was the 2021 campaign with the Stars as the team played every game on the road due to COVID regulations in Washington State. That season also saw his suit up for the Western Conference in the first MASL All-Star game which was held in Kansas City in December of 2020.

In all, McNeley posted 37 goals and 32 assists offensively while the defender blocked 72 shots in his 115 regular-season appearances. He also saw action in 10 playoff games, four with the Stars and six with the San Diego Sockers which was his original MASL club. Aside from the Stars and Sockers, he also spent a few seasons with the Ontario Fury.

The Stars is an organization McNeley knows well, making him a great fit for the coaching staff and a role he is ready for.

“I am thankful and grateful for the opportunity to share my indoor knowledge with the team. It’s a great group of guys who really get along. I am looking forward to this new endeavor,” said McNeley.

Nick Perera is also looking forward to McNeley’s knowledge helping the team. Perera said, “Bringing Evan back to the Stars to share his knowledge and passion for indoor soccer was a key offseason move for us. He’s a born winner with exceptional work ethic and pedigree in the sport.”

Stars fans will have their first opportunity to see McNeley behind the bench at the accesso ShoWare Center on Saturday, December 10 at 7:05 pm when the Stars welcome the Monterrey Flash for the annual Teddy Bear Toss game to benefit Toys-for-Tots.
