SAWATZKY SIGNED TO TWO-YEAR EXTENSION

by Tony Roberts

TACOMA, WA – The Tacoma Stars announced Friday they have signed Head Coach and General Manager Darren Sawatzky to a two-year contract extension. Per team and league policies, terms of the agreement were not disclosed. In 2017-18 Sawatzky guided the Stars to a playoff appearance following a second-place finish in the M.A.S.L.’s Pacific Division.

“Having the opportunity to work with the Tacoma Stars and build something the fans can be proud of is very humbling. We all appreciate the opportunity and really look forward to building on the pieces that got us into the playoffs last year. A big thank you to Lane Smith for bringing back the Stars and giving us the reins to build a winner” Sawatzky said.

This signing comes after locking up goalkeeper Danny Waltman for two more years giving Tacoma to big signings in as many weeks in what looks to be a busy off-season for the Stars. Although the schedule has not been released, the Stars return to action in December with a schedule which has been expanded over last season. Tacoma is set to host 12 regular-season M.A.S.L. matches.
