SAVAGE TOP STARS 9-2 ON MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT
KENT, WA. - The Tacoma Stars (6-13-2) entered Friday night's meeting with the visiting Chihuahua Savage (13-6-2) still alive in the hunt for a Wild Card spot into the 2022 Ron Newman Cup playoffs and looking for a big win. The Savage used a Jorge Rios hat trick to get past the Stars by 9-2 final which does not eliminate the Stars but makes all three of their remaining games crucial at this point.
The Stars started the game playing close with the Savage and with 6:35 left in the first quarter the game was even at 2-2. On this night, the game-winning goal came early as Chihuahua pulled ahead for good on a goal by Raymundo Contreras at 3-2 with 2:02 to go in the opening frame.
The Savage out-shot Tacoma in every quarter except for the fourth and it was in that quarter that Rios netted his natural hat trick with the final three goals of the game, the last coming with 16 seconds to go in the game.
Jamael Cox and Alessandro Canale picked up goals for Tacoma in the losing effort.
Tacoma will close out their regular-season home schedule on Sunday, March 27 against the Savage at 5:05 pm.
