LUND’S HAT TRICK LEADS STARS TO VICTORY IN TURLOCK

TURLOCK, Calif. – Philip Lund recorded his first goal in a Tacoma Stars jersey, and then added two more for good measure in the Stars’ 7-3 win over the Turlock Express at Turlock Indoor on Friday night. Lund recorded his hat trick in a wild six goal second quarter that gave the Stars a commanding 7-0 halftime lead. Joey Gjertsen scored once and chipped in an assist and Danny Waltman made 14 saves in the victory.

Joseph Cairel got the party started with a goal 11 minutes into the first quarter. Then the Stars exploded for six goals in the second, starting with two goals by Lund just a minute and 38 seconds apart. He scored his third goal four minutes later to give the Stars a 5-0 lead.

Alex Megson, Dan Antoniuk and Gjertsen each got into the act in the second to lead the Stars to a 7-0 lead at the break. Waltman faced just four shots on goal from the Express over the first 15 minutes. The dominating performance by the Stars moved them to 1-1 this season.

Ivan Campos scored the first goal for the Express just 16 seconds into the third quarter, and Arturo Pulido and Matthew Germain each added goals in the fourth, but the Express never really threatened and fell to 0-3 to start the season.
