CHRIS TOTH NAMED GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR

by Pete Richmire

Tacoma, WA – The 2023-24 MASL Major Individual Awards have been announced and Chris Toth has been named the Goalkeeper of the Year for the fourth time in his career. He previously was crowned the league’s premier keeper in 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2019-20. He is the only four-time winner of the Goalkeeper of the Year award and has now accomplished the feat with three different clubs.

Toth appeared in 21 games for the Stars, having missed three while in Dubai competing with the U.S. National Beach Soccer team where he served as the team’s captain in this year’s World Cup. He won 15 of his 21 starts with Tacoma, a career-high in his 10 years in the MASL.

Wins were not his only standout mark this season. He also tied career-highs in goals scored and assists, continuing to prove Toth is a threat making the save and then reading the opponent’s defense to start an attack.

This season saw Toth become the league’s all-time saves leader, finishing the campaign with 2,150 stops. 276 of those saves came this season, the third-highest total posted thus far in his MASL career.

Toth is known to be one of the first to arrive at training and last to leave, and fiercely driven by competition. He is also quick to acknowledge the level of skill in the MASL.

“There is great competition in this league, and I continue to give my best. I’m honored to have won this award,” he said.

Stars General Manager also noted Toth’s efforts in-game and at training by saying, “Chris deserves this recognition, and we are all very proud of his accomplishments this season. His talent, drive and work ethic make him a truly unique player, and his ability to impact our style of play was incredible.”

With Toth anchoring the defense, the Stars set MASL franchise records in wins, home wins, goal differential, points, and goals scored.
