TACOMA STARS TO COMPETE IN NASSC TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND

by Pete Richmire

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. – Less than a week following the conclusion of The Soccer Tournament in North Carolina, members of the Tacoma Stars will be competing on the east coast in a major tournament. This time, Nick Perera, Cory Keitz, and Fellipe Souza will participate in the North American Sand Soccer Championships on June 9-11. The NASSC, which began in 1994, takes place on over 65 fields stretching for over a mile and a half in Virginia Beach.

The Tacoma Stars team, which reached the U.S. Open Men’s Finals in the 2022 Tournament, will compete in Pool B in this year’s bracket against Beach Soccer VB Elite, Imane Beach SC, and Tidewater Captains. In all, 12 teams will vie for the U.S. Open Men’s Championship.

Joining current Stars players are former Stars Chris Toth, Alessandro Canale, and Mike Palmerin, MASL players Ricardo Carvalho, and Thyago Henrique, who also competed for the Stars Reserves, U.S. Beach National Team member Alan Franco, and Virginia Beach native Kambez Shukoor.

The Stars kick off pool play on Friday, June 9 at 8:30 am PDT against the Tidewater Captains. They will face Beach Soccer VB Elite at 4:50 pm that same day before wrapping up pool play the next day against Imane Beach Soccer Club at 8:30 am.

Perera, also the Captain of the U.S. Beach Soccer National team, is looking to expand on last year’s tournament finish while keeping Stars players in action. “It’s so important that we keep players from our group together and competing during the offseason, to continue the positive momentum from this last season. We have some unfinished business to take care of from last season’s final. The boys are hungry,” he said.

Stars fans can follow the team’s progress on Tacoma Stars’ social media and at www.tacomastars.com throughout the tournament.
